Apologies for the lack of posting. If you’re not following me on Google+, you’re missing a lot of my shares. It’s kind of become my blog in a way since it’s so easy to share things (and have them be cross-posted to Twitter) from Google Reader, in which I tend to live in thanks to my professional blogging gig.

At any rate, you may or may not have known that I went to CES 2012 a few weeks ago for my work with Netbook News. I had a pretty good time (it’s kind of a brutal schedule, so it’s not all fun), but I still haven’t had a chance to go through my photos and videos. I typed up a huge journal entry trying to recall all the stuff that happened while it was still fresh in my mind. Eventually I’d like to post snippets from it.

Another thing on my radar right now is Macworld/iWorld. It’s my first time attending; I was able to snag a press pass for it. I went on Wednesday, press preview day, which was alright. Since I’ll be hitting up the exhibit floor on Friday (and likely Saturday), it wouldn’t have killed me if I missed the press preview day. The website made it seem like there would be significant amount of exhibitors available to talk to before the show is opened up to the public, but there really weren’t. I went to the media reception to see which exhibitors would be there, and I saw a few interesting things, but again, I probably would’ve seen them on the show floor in a more exciting atmosphere. Atmosphere for an event like Macworld is important. Being there on Wednesday was a little bit like watching a movie like Rocky Horror Picture Show (in other words, a movie that benefits from a participatory audience) in a nearly empty theatre. But from the tweets I’ve read today about the first public show day, it sounds like it went much better. I’ll be there tomorrow!

Psycho Donuts – Key Lime Pie

Here’s the last of my half of the donuts from the first batch we ever
bought from Psycho Donuts in Campbell, CA.

It’s a raised donut (I think that’s what they’re called…?) with key
lime pie-flavored icing. It was good, but it’s my least favorite of
the three. But that’s mainly because I now seem to prefer cake donuts
to raised donuts. It was a fairly large donut, too. I probably
could’ve just eaten half, but then the other half would’ve gotten too
stale and ended up in the garbage. No wasting here!

Anyway, I think we successfully found a donut shop where we would want
to be repeat customers. The challenge now is to limit how often we
visit, both for our health and our budget. Psycho Donuts is on the
pricier side, but I can say without question they’re worth the price.

(No, I didn’t have a Sierra Nevada Celebration ale with the donut —
ewww! — I just used the box as a contrasting background. )

Psycho Donuts – Drunkin’ Punkin’

I posted previously about going to Psycho Donuts in
Campbell, CA. This is my 2nd out of 3 donuts I picked out (we bought a
half-dozen) — the so-called “Drunkin’ Punkin”.

According to Psycho Donuts’ own blog here’s the description:

“The Drunkin’ Punkin’ is a Chef Ron masterpiece; his own Plymouth
Rock. We start with a bourbon-spiked pumpkin cake donut. Seriously. We
top it with cheesecake icing, fresh pecans, and a cross-hatch of maple
and caramel drizzle. If the pilgrims knew of this donutrocity, they
may have landed in Santa Cruz rather than Plymouth Rock.”

It was a damn tasty donut!

Psycho Donuts

Last night I had a hankering for donuts and was able to track down a
donut shop that was open until 9 PM, Psycho Donuts. They have a lot of
quirky donut flavors, like this raspberry one. I forgot its quirky
name, unfortunately. But it was quite tasty! We were worried that the
donuts would be kind of crappy since we got to the place fairly close
to closing time. But no, my raspberry donut tasted fresh and yummy. I
have a key lime pie donut and another one with some kind of white
frosting, caramel drizzle, and pecans waiting for me.

iPhone 4S and Galaxy Nexus: Comparison Between Two Hot Phones

I'm usually wary of the tech news articles that come out when a new, hot phone-of-the-moment is announced and is compared with previous models, especially before the hot phone has actually been released! However, you can take specs and known factors and use them for research if you are considering phone X or phone Y, in this case, the Apple iPhone 4S or the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

I'm also wary of articles that claim to know definitively what phone you should get, without considering individuals' needs and use cases. That's not doing the buyer any good.

I just posted an article on Netbook News that presents a lot of major features for comparison between the two phones so that if you are considering getting one or the other (lucky you if you get both! Will you be my friend and lend them both to me? ), you can make more of an informed decision than just asking a random salesperson at a big-box retailer or a mobile carrier store on the spot which phone you should get.

I know Friday's here and a lot of people are already offline and having their weekend fun, but if you have some time (or a lot of time…it's a long article!), I'd sure appreciate you checking out the article, and maybe commenting here or over there if there are points you think I missed, or didn't emphasize enough, or just got plain wrong. Please be respectful, though!

The weather out here seems even more mercurial than back in Chicago. Took this photo (and edited with Camera 360), then a few minutes later the sun was blazing and the clouds broke. Now, hours later, the blah has again given way a little to the sun.
